A busy weekend for TCRC saw some members competing in two races over two days, but that was child’s play compared to the effort put in by Peter Waywell who tackled the Cumbria way Ultra event. A 73 mile race over 10,000 foot of ascent from Ulverston in the south to Carlisle in the North. Peter finished in a brilliant 4th place in 15 hours 54.47.
Saturday was the Northern Relays at Stanley Park Blackpool and TCRC had a team in both the men’s 6 stage and the ladies 4 stage.
Alex Fleming led the men off on the 6k course in 25.18, followed by Martin Boswell 26.05. Phil Hayes picked up an injury along the way but managed to finish in 31.50 and handed over to Joe Tyldesley 28.32. Steve Brooks 26.08 and Tony Codling 26.06 brought the team home.
Sarah Wetherill was the lead TCRC lady in the 4.9k race and ran an excellent 21.52, Julie Sherwood followed in 26.51 and handed over to Jenny Clark 23.14 and Daisy Seville 23.43.
Four TCRC ladies competed in the Lancaster half marathon and first home was Kirsty Waywell in 2.13.53, closely followed by Johanne Lickiss 2.15.46. Jackie Routledge 2.28.47 and Christine Burgess 2.32.34
Eighteen members entered the Fleetwood Triathlon which consisted of a 400 metre pool swim, a 12 mile bike ride and a 5k run to finish.
Quickest on the day was John Laird who covered the distance in 1.06.08, followed by Andy Fairbairn 1.07.52. Leading lady was Sarah Wetherill who finished in an excellent 1.13.48 considering her relay effort the day before. Caroline McLaughlan did excellent in her first triathlon in 1.14.07 as did David Barras 1.14.20. Tony Codling 1.17.53 and Steve Brooks 1.18.10 both had strong races following their relay efforts. Other finishers were Colin Denney 1.24.28, Kirsty Whyatt 1.25.08, Kieron Chadwick 1.25.50, Janine Denney 1.27.03, Melanie Foster 1.28.51, Debbie Cardwell 1.30.11, Bev Foster 1.30.41, Julie Sherwood 1.34.08 and Simon Mason 1.40.39. A special mention for Lisa Young, who following weeks of dedicated training smashed her expected finishing time to come home in an excellent 1.37.36.
Unluckiest member of the day was Malc Sherwood who following three punctures on the first bike lap had to concede defeat and support the superb efforts of TCRC members.
The Scorton 8k trail race was contested by Karl Glover 43.19, Joe Tyldesley 46.27 and Jenny Clark 47.02, both in their second race of the weekend and Ben Brennan 47.23.
