Running Week That Was…..

Hunters 10k – The three musketeers assembled on the start line at the Hunters 10K on a very warm Sunday morning – Men’s Captain Andy Fairbairn, Caroline McLaughlan and Daisy Seville. The course took them on a short lap around the block and out to Avenham Park. Andy had a great run considering his niggling knee and crossed the line in 16th place, in a fabulous time of 38.05. A very happy and smiling Daisy followed in a superb PB of 44.12! Her first sub 45 mins and most definitely not her last! Well done Daisy! Daisy was followed by our ladies champion Caroline, who smashed out a time of 45.30, following a weekend of over 30 miles of running! Well done team!!

Phil crossed the line in a fantastic 23.25, with Dave behind in a great 24.39, followed by the ever improving Steve, in a great 25.28! 199 runners finished Lytham on Saturday!

When did I start running?

I started 13 years ago. My sister and I both did the race for life in our respective towns. In her goody bag was an entry form for the inaugural Cardiff half marathon finishing in the millennium stadium. When do the likes of us get the chance to run round a national stadium? I said yes and started running trying to go further each time. My time scale from race to life to half marathon was 10 weeks.

Why do I like running?

It clears the head! The effort of putting one foot in front of the other and simultaneously breathing gives you something else to think about. No matter what the weather, once you have stepped out the door it feels good to be outdoors. Along the way I have made some lovely friends from different running clubs and people I see out walking on my regular routes.

Greatest Achievement?

How can I pick one?

Being selected to be ladies captain.

Freckleton half marathon- a race I had always wimped out of doing because it is always a scorcher of a day but did last year for the first time and loved it.

The Cardiff half was my first half which took me 3hrs 40mins when I returned for the 10th it took me 1hr 56mins.

The thing I am probably most proud of is the times I have helped people achieve a time on a certain distance or got them to the end of their first race.

Why am I a member of the club

Fun, friendship and new challenges. I would not be the runner I am today without our lovely Mike Walsh who used to slow down to run with me.

2016 Goal

After a long time out with injury I will be thrilled to just be running by the end of the year. Assuming I can, I would like to win a veg box at Harrock hill, run down Parlick instead of fairying around and achieve another club standard.
