Weekly Report: 01/10/2014

T.C.R.C members had a busy weekend travelling to races in Europe and at home. Kirsty Whyatt enjoyed the experience of running through the Brandenburg Gate in the Berlin marathon finishing in a splendid 4.43.

Slightly closer to home Terry Poole travelled to Scotland to tackle the undulating Loch Ness marathon and was delighted with a new P.B in 3.35.54.

Husband and wife team Malc and Julie Sherwood decided to take on two races in the same day. Firstly they ran the “tough” Orton fell race in Cumbria. Julie ran strongly and finished in an excellent 65.55 and Malc was overjoyed to finish first vet 60 and collect the prize of a new pair of mountain/fell shoes from Sportiva valued at £100.

In the evening the latest race in the club road championship took place at the Lancaster 5k. Matt Walsh had an excellent top ten finish in a new P.B of 16.49 closely followed by men’s captain, Andy Fairbairn in 17.3 and Peter Waywell 18.33. Joe Tyldesley ran a promising race in 21.29, just ahead of current ladies champion Jenny Clark in 21.45. Gillian Pryor had another consistent run 23.31 followed by the “tired” Julie Sherwood 25.28 and Malc Sherwood 28.50. David Jones took the vet 65 prize at the Preston 5k in 25.40

The Race to Remember in the village of Scorton was run on a testing course with some very tough climbs, however Scott Ross ran hard to finish high up in 40.45. Jenny Clark, in her second run in two days, showed she was returning better than ever from her lay off with a promising 48.02. Steve Burgess 56.23 ran well as did Jackie Routledge and Christine Burgess, who finished together in 69.04.

Partners Simon Mason and Bev Foster competed in their first ever Triathlon at Kendal on their way back from Scotland. Following the 400 metre swim, the bike and run course moved to the hills in southern Lakeland. Bev 1.39.36 and Simon 1.46.06 were both more than pleased with their efforts in the three discipline event and look forward to competing in next year’s events.
