Weekly Report 04/12/2014

The latest race in the Trail and Fell championship was the David Staff memorial race from the picturesque Sunnyhurst woods in Darwen. The race is in memory of a young man who died from Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy following a race in the area. Once again Andy Fairbairn was first home for TCRC in a splendid 34.09. Even more impressive was that it was his second race in two days following his exploits at Liverpool. Phil Hayes enjoyed his rare outing on the fells with a 42.28. Julie Sherwood 45.55, also in her second race of the weekend, continued her dominance in the championship and Malc Sherwood also finished in 51.21.

The Mid Lancs cross country travelled to Liverpool to compete in the British Athletics cross challenge. Matt Walsh in his first outing over the country had a strong race coming home like a sprinter in 35.26. Andy Fairbairn and Martin Boswell both finished in 37.50 after a battle to the tape, with Andy just coming out on top. Scott Ross is enjoying his off road season and looking stronger with each outing finishing in 39.43. Not far behind was Leon Flesher 40.08 who continues to improve. John Hickman had a good outing considering his lack of training in 47.44 and was well supported by Colin Denney in 48.40.

The ladies race, run over a longer distance than is normal in the Mid Lancs saw Julie Sherwood have another excellent race, coming home in 43.53. Sandra Gilchrist finished strongly in 45.09 just ahead of team mate Sarah Scott in 45.19. Team captain Debbie Cardwell supported team well in 46.25 as did Janine Denney in 51.17.

The Wesham 10k, which unfortunately continues to clash with the Liverpool cross country saw Ben Brennan get a PB in 43.30. Other finishers were Brian Cumpsty 43.34, Stephen Browne 45.49, Jenny Clark 46.40, Mike Walsh 71.30 and Lisa Young 73.43.
