A large contingent of Thornton Cleveleys Running Club members journeyed to North Lakeland to compete in the “Keswick Mountain Festival” multi event races.
John Laird 3.01.45 and Kirsty Whyatt 3.59.02 began proceedings in the “Long” triathlon, which consisted of an 800 metre swim in Derwent water, followed by a 35k bike ride over the Honister and Newlands Pass, then a 10k run to finish. In a shorter triathlon Lesley Gray showed her class finishing in 1.31.0 for the 400 metre swim, 20k bike ride and 5k run. Colin Denney had an excellent race in 1.45.43. Simon Mason came home in 1.55.37. Sisters, Bev and Melanie Foster battled all the way with Melanie 1.58.53 coming out on top on this occasion. Bev finished just behind in 2.01.31, Janine Denney enjoyed the race, making new friends along the way in 2.04.14.
The following day Andy Fairbairn, Leon Flesher, Roy Tomlinson and Peter Waywell all ran the Ultra mountain trail race, 32 mile and 6000 foot of ascent in 6.48.33 with Roy taking the vet 55 title.
In the shorter trail race consisting of 16 miles and 2,500 foot Julie Sherwood 3.37.46 was pleased with her race despite taking a tumble in the last 5k. Malcolm Sherwood was glad to see the finish in 4.33.57.
The 10k trail races began on the far side of the lake, after a choppy ferry crossing. The fastest time of the day for TCRC was posted by Jenny Clark in 57.18. Caroline McLaughlan 65.33 held something back for her 1500 metre swim that was to follow. Colin Denney ran well in 63.20, his second race of the weekend. Steve burgess 68.09 enjoyed the terrain, as did Sarah Scott 68.13, competing in her first trail race with the swim also to follow. Bev Foster 75.04 turned the tables on sister Melanie 77.13 this time. Janine Denney 77.31 and Simon Mason 85.57 also competed for the second time in two days. Other finishers were. Sandra Gilchrist 70.07, Michelle Tomlinson 77.13, Jackie Routledge 79.29, Christine Burgess 80.20, Kirsty Waywell 86.01, Lisa Young 101.15 and Karen Livesey 102.16.
In the 1500 metre swim Sarah did 36.19 and Caroline 39.42.
At the Leyland Worden Park 10k Joe Tyldesley returned 44.09 and Ben Brennan 45.11
